Default AP1 cams in AP2 Question

What parts exactly are needed to support AP1 cams in an AP2?
Cam gears?
Cam rollers?
Direct replacement?

What are the advantages of doing this? Are there more agressive profiles on the ap1 cams? Seems counter productive for honda to make a bigger engine with less agressive profiles.

Curious to see the outcome of some cam testing with bolt ons and kpro tuning once it comes out for the s2000...I had kpro on my ep3 civic si and it is by far one of the best mods money can buy.

It's not counterproductive at all. They made the intake cam less aggressive for safety reasons, the same reason they stroked the motor to begin with. As far as the exhaust cam is concerned it is more agressive in some areas and less in others leading to better low-end performance and slightly compromised high end performance. Much of the reason for the engine change was to increase average longevity of the motor. The secondary reason was to increase low end performance. The change in cam profiles goes along with this philosophy.

All of what you're saying makes sense as I figured the only reason they compromised absolute power was for better low end/mpg/emissions/reliability, but when the Z's have been buffed up to over 300hp, it makes me wish that honda had done the same and made the f22 stick with 120hp/liter = 265hp. Oh well, its still way more fun than a Z

Yeah, I was kind of surprised by the 3 and 6 being the only necessary components as well! Just the cams themselves and that's it?
