Default Berak in period?

I am a newbie to the S2000, just 700 miles on mine. The manual suggests 600 miles as a break in period. They say to keep it below 5000rpm for that period. Before I go and blow my engine, can anyone tell me if this is accurate. It seems a little low of a break in time. I am at 750 miles now, can I really push it to the limits and go for the 8900rpm or what?
Thanks in advance for your comments

The following has been suggested :
700=7k
800=8k
900=9k
1000=Feel free to get busy.

Me? At 601 I made some noise.

I Redlined right at 600.1 miles! Just remember to keep checking your oil when you start VTECing. It gets real thirsty if you VTEC alot.

Have FUN!

Can anyone out there give an example of how much oil they've put in during the first 3700mi, intervals if more then once. It would be interesting to see if there is any patern to how much and in what time frame(milage).

I check my oil almost every time I get gas. I was just over X low at about 1200 miles. It hasn't used any oil since.

My car is but one example. Each engine seems to break in a little bit differently. Some have reported adding up to a quart every 1000 miles, then seeing no consumption after 5000.

A good rule of thumb is to check the oil at every fill up. At least until you are comfortable with you engine's oil consumption pattern.

The more you VTEC the more oil you will use. The more you track the car, the more oil you will use. This means extended canyon carving too.

Definitely check your oil level at every fill up. High performance engines almost always use oil. It is not something to be alarmed about, just the nature of the beast. You should be concerned if you start pouring blue smoke out your exhaust or if your car drinks much more than a quart every 1000 miles. Otherwise enjoy!
