Default Broken bolt

My buddy over torqued one of the bolts on my valve cover and snapped the top off. What are some ways i can get the rest of it out.

I've heard of the screw you drill in and drill back out but I don't think it'll work due to the size?

take the valve cover off, and see if there is enough left to get a vise grip on it

valve cover bolts screw into the tops of the cam tower bolts. worse case, you just remove the cam tower bolt (12mm) that has the valve cover bolt broken in it and replace it.

I did this. There was enough of a lip left I was able to loosen with a screwdirver and then back out by pressing down with my finger tip and turning. If you can back out just a little these are removable by hand. They do make a small enough Easy-Out though.

I've had that problem too before with the valve cover bolt and cam cap bolts. POS tourqe wrench. Check to see if you can get a grip on it, if not...get a reverse drill bit. You can get it from kragen and such. Drill a hole big enough into the bolt to have a good bite on the reverse drill bit. Screw the drill bit by hand into the broken bolt hole you just drilled. Then get a plier and turn the reverse drill bit slowly. It'll come out, just make sure to have a good bite on the bit and broken bolt.

i had this happen last week. Because the head broke off its not in there tight at all. Use a reverse but (like a grabit) and it will spin out real easy

and make sure to use a center punch to make an indent directly in the center of the broken bolt to give the bolt extractor more surface area to grab.

If it broke while tightening, torque has been released. You could very well just spin it out with your fingers, needle nose pliers, or sharp pick.
