Default Clicking noise while turning

hi guys,

i have a 2005 with about 14.5k miles on it. mods include 4.77 gears (installed 8 months ago, only about 1000 miles on the new gears), stock diff. espelir asds and aftermarket wheels, both installed about 500 miles ago.

i've just noticed this clicking noise coming from somewhere down below. of course i thought it was a nail or something else in one of the tires, since it was cyclic/rhythmic with the tire rotation. but all tires are fine.

i took it out for a test drive, and was able to reproduce it. its a subtle, but definitely audible repeating click, ONLY when turning at low speeds. more common at a full turn. it sounds like when i turn to the RIGHT, the clicking originates from the left side of the car (more pronounced near the front LEFT tire??). and when i turn to the LEFT, the clicking originates from the right side of the car (more pronounced near the rear RIGHT tire??) i would have kept testing but i was getting really nauseous driving in circles

again, visual inspection reveals nothing obvious. car seems to be fine otherwise...

any thoughts?

thanks for any info

I had a similar sound coming from mine when making uturns or sharper turns..
Dealer re- lubed the splines on axle that go into hub and re- torque new nut to 220 ft lbs.
the sound was more of a "clinking" sound vs "click"- like a pair of hand cuffs rattling vs a CV joint sound...
good luck.

^Every one I've known with this problem ends up replacing the rear wheel bearings (including me). Personally, I think the damage is done once it makes noise and the "lube & re-torque" only puts off the inevitable. I think the noise is because the bearings are worn, not because the initial torque wasn't correct. Once re-torqued even tighter they just wear faster.

As for the "clicking" that pup73 has, maybe you should check the drive shaft. My rear CV dried out and made a similar noise, though again 14k is awfully early for this kind of failure.

Just to follow up, pup came over and I checked the rear out. Sounded like the wheel on Wheel of Fortune, but at a once per wheel rotation frequency. All I did was bend the dust shield away from the caliper a smidge, then did a general push back of the dust shield off the rotor. Fixed all the noises I am thinking there is something on the back side of the rotor that is hitting the dust shield. If it comes back, that is what I will check next. Weird that this was happening on both sides
