Default clutch change question

Is a transmission jack necessary when swapping out the clutch or will a floor jack and some 2x10's do the trick?? I just don't want to spend 200 bucks if I can do it with a floor jack. Thanks in advance.

I take it you are not putting it on a lift? and you have extra floor jacks?

If I remember correctly, the only thing I needed the jack for was to tilt the engine, to get to the impossible-to-reach-otherwise bolt.

Not to heavy but an extra hand would help out alot. Probably 100 lbs if I had to guess.

I'm not a small guy by any means but I will throw up a jack stand and some boards just in case something does happen.

ChefJ,

I just changed my clutch this past weekend. I placed a jackstand out back by the driveshaft and one of those aluminum jacks with a 6" 2X4 on the saddle and placed that under the bellhousing (actually between the Bhousing and where the gears are) ... I lowered the tranny little by little with the jack and then when it was low enough I picked it up and removed the jackstand ... Its not a big deal, just make sure you do it slowly and dont drop it .. I placed a few 2X4s on the floor by the sides in case it rolled off the jack ... Its not that heavy.

Joaquin
