A mfgr is going to share parts and tooling wherever possible. It is what keeps costs down. So I am sure where they can, they did so. Its mfg 101

I have about 40 S2000 coils here. NOTE their physical appearance. This is everything:

1- 099700-430 AP1, all coils have this number
2- 099700-070 AP2 (04-05) All coils have this number
3- 099700-073 AP2 (04-05) “Rogue part”, only one I have
4- 099700-117 AP2 (06-09) all coils have this number
5- 099700-115 R AP2 (06-09) “Rogue part”, only one I have

@9KCanuck have you installed these already?

@Billman250 are you aware of any multimeter testing that would verify presence or absence of the resistor?

Next week I will OHM them out and let you know.

Here's a question....In the 2006-2009 S2000, the VSA intervenes with the throttle, does it also intervene with the ignition coil power? (possible more frequent cycling of the ignition necessitates the need for the R-coil) speculating here

Good question. I believe I have heard from a few that when having large ignition related issues (like misfires) it also disabled VSA, which would indicate to me the two systems are linked and it may be cutting ignition when VSA is doing its thing. Have seen this on other cars too. For example, on our Tacoma, the only issue we have ever had with it was a bad MAF sensor. It ran perfectly, but would set a random code now and then and when it did, traction control would automatically disable until the code was cleared.

Toyota/Lexus disables traction control for most every cel code imaginable. Doesn't matter if related in any way.

It feels like them trying to make things seem worse, so you'll:

Be more inclined to take seriously, fix sooner

Be more worried, and willing to pay to get things fixed

Those last two lines make you go "ahhh...I see".

I've installed one and ordered 3 more after I saw that it fit and the car started up and idled fine. I didn't drive it.

From what I can tell, this is not an error or mislabel. Denso 2301 = -115R coils = '04-'05 part. Maybe in the past this wasn't the case, I have no idea. It would be good to see an 'old' Denso 673-2301 to compare with what I received. But every site and post/comment/etc. I have found confirms that these coils are meant for the '04-05 S2000 and that has always been the case.

If you're an owner of an '00-03 S2000 and need to buy new ignition coils, your options are limited. Anything that is explicitly for an '00-'03 is very expensive, whether that's the original -2300 Densos or the NGK equivalent. I don't know of any other brand folks here would consider.

So, to be sure, if you own a 2000-2003 model S2000, you need these $$$ coil packs. Yes?
