Default COnverting a UK engine to JDM

Just sold my JDM but will be getting another S in the future.

Will most likely be getting a UK car but I know there are some differences in the Engine over the JDM. The JDM BHP is about 247BHP but the UK is 237. I belive the difference is down to the 100RON octane fuel available in Japan and that the head gaskget is different. Can any one tell me all the differences, how easy it would be to convert the UK engine to JDM and is it really worth it?

As the S can be sooooooo exspensive to modify is this going to be the most cost effective mod I could do?

I'm not a BIG engine junky so go easy on the Jargon please

Thanks lads and ladets

Chris

I don't think its worth it, but I believe you can buy a spoon (or another JDM brand) head gasket that will increase the compression ratio. It does require/recommend higher octane.

I've heard this loads of times and I'm not sure what it is, I would suspect that it is just the ECU that gives the extra power!? but other people have said its the pistons then others have said the gasket.... it gets confusing after a bit!?!

Its usually the gasket etc for running higher octane from JDM imports that cause the most of the difference, but it can also be down to the emission levels on the UK cars, imports don't have as strict emissions to pass and so they have different cats, which reduce back pressure etc. You can easily get round this by putting on a full system.

So,

Looks like a Mugen ECU, HG and new exhaust (possibly just de-cat) would be the way to go. Would any one disagree, and why?

How difficult is it to change a Head gaskget?

^ changing the head gasket is very time consuming.

i wouldn't do it by yourself. You'll need a helper to pull the head; the aluminum is soft so you don't want to damage anything in your attempts to remove it. It requires a good bit of work, but it really is mostly undoing bolts and what-not.

Putting it back on requires a lot of precision. You'll need a torque wrench; follow the specs religiously. I've never done a S2000 gasket change, but I've done it on others.

the best mod for the $ are gears, go for a shorter ratio like 4.44 or 4.65

Stocky @ the european forum sell it
