Problem solved itself
I popped the cover on the actuator & checked the cable, & while there was a bit of discoloration beyond the sleeve, it moved freely.
A two hour test drive showed the problem no longer existed.
Did she just want attention or was it the threat of me with a wrench in my hand?

Yes, the indicator light went out right away.
After driving her for a week to & from the office, using the cruise control, I have come to the conclusion that the problem is a cable sticking.
I can't tell youse how glad I am it was something this simple.
As the accelerator cable has a return spring, my prime suspect is the one running to the cruise control actuator. Think I'll pull them both & apply some lube this weekend.
Now I just need to decide whether to use silicon or lithium & insure I can figure out how to adjust 'em...

I disengaged the clutch & killed the ignition. However, when I switched the key back on, the car restarted (w/o the start button) & revved back up, so I switched off again, this time for about 15 or so seconds.
Depending on how quickly you turned it back on, the engine may not have actually stopped spinning when you turned the key back to on. Adding the ignition and fuel supply back to the already rotating engine is the same as if you'd used the starter to spin it.
Also, did you let the clutch out with it in gear? When you turned the key back to on? Obviously this is, in effect, "popping the clutch" or push-starting the car without using the starter.
I'd be giving Honda a call either way because that is mucho dangerous.

Did the cruise indicator go off when you hit cancel, tapped the brakes, etc?
