recently discovered a pinhole leak in my rear cv boot and attempted to patch the hole. after a test ride i realized i had failed. so now i have searched and came with a few options - may i also ad the car isnt a track car or beat on -

spoon boots - ouch on cost and the companies i deal with dont stock them - so no go

buying a new axle from a honda source - even with discount ouch - no go again

buying a used axle from a junkyard - not sure how long it will hold up before needing repair to bearings/ internal parts - possible option - most affordable

buying aftermarket axles - not f.i. so my power levels dont really warrant investing in these i.m.h.o. - why??

ordering a new boot, reusing oem rings, buying the special tool for the rings, replacing the internal parts - best option?

looking for your opinions on the options, if i am not looking at something please inform me. i have no problem with doing my own work so please advise away, thanks in advance.

I say replace the boot, new clamps, make sure it's greased, put it back together. If the internals aren't damaged and it was a very small leak, there's no reason to replace the internals.

 

Just buy a new boot. The oem clamps do not need any special tools aside from a nice sturdy pair of long nose pliers and a firm grip.

 

Just get a new OEM boot and some good grease. I wouldn't bother changing the internal components unless you damage them trying to get them off the axle. Good info here > https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/106...-the-cv-axles/

 

Take aftermarket axles off your list. Any other axle but a hollow shaft honda axle vibrate horribly right out of the box.

Do the boot.
