Default Dead ECU

Has anyone had an ECU go dead on them? After two months of ownership of a MY2001 S2000 (UK) with about 11,000 miles on it, all things point to a dead ECU. What could possibly cause that?

Corrosion/short circuit in the evap control solenoid due to road salt can fry the ECU

But more info may disolve that one....

The symtoms are as follows:

Turn ignition on (II) and all check lighs but the Engine and Immobilizer lights come on. These two remain dead (no blinking - nothing).

The starter truns the engine no problem, but the car does not fire.

I have had one person offer me a MY2001 ECU here already. Can anyone confirm that the ECU's for US and UK are the same?
