I'd be willing to be you're hearing your diff and not your gears. Is it a steady increase in noise / pitch as you go faster? When was the last time you replaced your diff fluid?

Also keep in mind that this car makes noises. My diff whines a bit at low speeds in low gears when it's cold out. I religiously change my diff fluid, and do yearly checks on all the visible parts. None of my bearings look like they're failing nor do I have any transmission issues. It just makes noise...

And it goes away, silent once you hit 3rd gear or higher? What if you short shift the car into 3rd gear a couple hundred rpm lower do you have any gear whine? Trying to see if it is speed or RPM related

Ok, so it is RPM related, 1200 RPM or less and you hear gear whine above 1,200 RPM and it goes away?
