Stock = using stock lubricants or *equivalent / upgraded.
* = key word!

IMO some of the post 2005 GL-5 gear lubes are not equivalent.

i agree with the last 5 posting.

buying a stock rebuilt from diff. from puddy and exchanging the used diff is a good idea. in the end yo essentially spend nearly the same amount.

Rebuilt to OEM specs diff from Puddydad would be the way to go vs. buying an unknown used condition diff.

Generally speaking the OEM drivetrain on the S2K is pretty weak and there is an informal pwnd diff club and the member ship of the club grows every year.

Puddydad knows his shit.

the mechanic shop that my car is at now . is quoting me 800 to replace the differential in my car not including price of fluids. given that i provide him the part. 2200 if rebuilds the whole thing.

is that a high quote or no?

gut feeling this is a little steep. I've gotten the replacement differential and just need him to do the swap. what a general ball park estimate cost for a job like this.?

800 is ALOT! i would compare around, maybe a fellow s2ker might lend you a hand. i got mine changed from a fellow s2ker in the dfw area. paid him $150 bucks to remove and replace it and put in the fluids.

yeah, it just annoying.

just because my car is stranded 65 miles away from home i can't bring it to a shop i trust.

Too! bad i just signed up for "AAA" - it's activated on thursday. I'll have them tow my car to my own mechanic and have him work on it.

the guy i go to often quoted me 300- 350. thats night and day of a difference.

Average cost of an R&R is $300/350 so you are right in the ball park of a good quote

Be sure to use the right gear oil and not to over fill. Use a good GL-5 hypoid oil 75/110 or 75/140 Amsoil, Moble 1, or Valvoline is all good to use. The rear takes less than a quart to fill about 30oz.
