FWIW I just experienced a similar clunking - it was a loose suspension bolt on the right rear wheel assembly, so it won't hurt to jack the rear of the car and see if the whole wheel rocks back and forth or if its all properly tight.

ughh ill try to take a pic of them but they were fine shavings covered in thick fluid, kinda hard to see since they look globby, but there were a lot because the drain bolt looked flat on top, then i dug all the shavings out around the magnet to find a lot of shavings... I think im just going to replace the diff. all together.

and no its not the suspension, i just put coilovers on and it still makes the same noise.

Very light shavings is normal. Depends on the size of the pieces. On some cars, you will find a piece half the size of a tic-tac. it's D shaped. Its a broken tab off the clutches. Even this is ok. as long as it comes out of course

Agree with Billman. I had a TR4a years ago with lsd and had this clunk at low speeds usually on uneven surfaces. Learned to disregard and drove the car for several years without a problem. Although I have not noticed this with my S, I believe now it is just an anomoly associated with lsd on many cars.

If the shavings look like charcoal pudding, that's normal.
