Default Differential rotation

I am new to RWD, havent owned one before, and had a question.

When I roll the car backwards/forwards by pushing.. in neutral, the differential i would assume is what is making this noise, but it seems as though there is play between being pushed forward and backward.

Its kinda hard to explain, but is there usually play? Like if I get under the car, should I be able to rotate the driveshaft at all? I would guess the answer is no, but just want to make sure. I havent done that, im guessing it should be fine.

The reason I ask is that when I am driving, if I have it in a higher gear then it technically should be in (leave it in 5th when engine braking), there is a slight vibration that goes through the car. And its somewhat similar to the repetition of the clutch buzz.

When doing that you are lugging the engine a bit.
(or a lot, depending how slow you are going)
Slight vibrations during those situations are normal IMO.

All gears have some play, must have some play, to work correctly.
With the rear wheels on the ground I think you would be able to feel some play in the propshaft, not that much though.

Don't forget: in the S2000 the engine is right in front of you (where your feet are)and right next to you is the gearbox, the diff is right down behind you.
Noise... noise.. noise
