Dimmer Switch, What wire?

Dimmer Switch, What wire?
Hey,
I am installing some defi Gauges and was wondering where I can source the dimmer wire for the car. I am guessing that if the defi guages see 12v on the dimmer wire then they dim. Would this be correct? What wire should I used to do this when I turn my lights on. The shop manual says a Red/blk wire behind the stock gauge cluster. I really don't want to tear into all that. Anyone know where maybe I can find this wire up under the dash? Thanks for the help boys.

Sorry I can't answer your question... but have you checked to see if Defi gauges can actually dim?
Reason I ask is my Autometer ProComps won't dim even when I put them on my dimmer switch (different vehicle)... it was either on or off.

If, however, they do "dim", you can just hook it up via a female spade connector on the illumination wire of the gauge to the empty pin on the fuse panel that's for the lights.
See the RED, YELLOW, RED wires going into the fuse panel? (Yours should be empty.) It's the slot that the top RED one is plugged into.

X viper....your a pimp. I use one of the others for a 12v source. Comes on when you turn the car on. I use it to run my accessories and amp and crap. Good call on the light one. I will double check it tomorrow with a volt meter and see if I get 12v out of it when I turn my lights on. Thanks guys

I know this is an old thread, but do you still have that photo? It doesn't seem to be showing up and I'm trying to wire up these gauges I have just installed.
Cheers.
*EDIT*
Never mind...I figured it out.
