As stated earlier, we are working closely with Dave and Keith trying to analyse the cause of the problem and find a solution. When we get it figured out, then we can update those kits that need updating and we will give an update report at that time. We have all of our best people working to figure this one out. The most perplexing part is that is happens consistently on some cars and not at all on others. Obviously, whatever we try will require some time and mileage to determine if it is the answer, so this isn't going to be done in one or two weeks. Please bear with us and we appreciate your patience.

Why don't you just replace the brakets with steel ones? Sounds like a lot of people have been screwing with this for a long time and are doing a lot of the work for you. I don't see how replacing the broken brakets with exactly the same bracket is going to help considering it appears to be a materials/design issue. I also don't think it's fair to leave people to their own devices in fixing this problem. I can see an aftermarket springing up on replacement brackets.

It's nice to stay in contact with your customers but this is rediculus.

cthree,

the only thing with stronger brackets is that you still don't get to the source of the problem... that intense vibration you feel in the shifter and chasis has to be causing the unusual damage to the brackets. I bet if the vibration is fixed the brackets would cease to fail...

I'm thinking about removing my SC until this is all ironed out...

The brackets that have been replaced have not been of all the same design... Indeed from the very first time a bracket broke changes have been made in a number of different ways in an attempt to understand/address what is going on. Comptech has always stayed in touch with both Keith and I... after all up until a few hours ago we were the only ones exhibiting broken brackets... and believe me we've tried to find others...

I also agree with Shaner regarding stronger brackets... Indeed that was what Shad has been saying all along.... See this closed thread for details...

Aviation Mechanics 101:
"You can't fix the problem until you know what caused it".........anyone out there got a broken bracket?

A) Ultimate Tensile Failure (design)
- Material change
- Increased Radii
B) Fatigue
- Material change
- Mounting
C) Bad Material (chemical analysis)

D) Latent Installation Stress

E) Failed heat treat/tempering

Depending on the failure mode the fix may be one of several options............

I did mention in a previous thread that the aircraft guys pointed out that the brackets are made from the wrong material. T6 will often crack when subjected to vibration, T3 is the right material for that application. Apparently Boeing and others that have been doing aluminum parts for many years do exactly that.
