Does the intake cone brand/type matter?
Only way to know is to put a air filter restriction gauge on your intake. I put one on my '06 and went 90k miles on a Wix air filter without any restriction.

If the stock air filter puts no restriction(as shown by a air filter restriction gauge) how can a filter that flows more cfm make more power?
If the engine is getting 100% of the air it wants at WOT with no restriction, putting a larger filter on it won' t get you more hp.
If someone on here can show me how a filter that causes no restriction cost the engine hp I'd like to hear your theory on that.

It could. Depends on the size of the filter. They are primarily used in off road situations as a pre filter to repel dirt and some water.
I use an alternative which may sound silly but works great, and its cheap. Panty hose. I don't care about heavy dirt and water, but do care about the sand and debris that accumulates quicker on the filter due to my cold air snorkel. Quite a bit of road debris over short time gets on the filter because of that direct airflow. The panty hose breathes extremely well like nothing there, but has a really tight fine mesh that blocks all but the extremely fine dust. Keep the filter cleaner much longer and protects it.
