Thanks, this worked great! I had assumed there was a broken wire somewhere or something much harder to fix.

When I was done, I reconnected the electrical connector without putting it back up into the recess and found that the lights now came on when the door was open, but the buttons no longer worked to turn them on. At first I thought I had broken something else in the process of fixing the switch. However, I soon discovered that the problem was that the buttons don't work when the dome is not screwed into the frame. If you look closely, the left side screw has an electrical wire connecting to a ring that the screw is going through.

So, for those of you having trouble with your buttons not working, or only working when you press up on the light assembly, your fix is to pop the frosted plastic out and then tighten the left side screw. It needs to be tight so that electricity gets from the ring around the screw down into the body of the car. I'm pretty sure that will fix it for you.

I just did this too, in my case I had a dead burned spider in my light housing and one of it's legs had melted on one of the contacts.

Just did this!
It works now.

Except I’m having the same problem as some of you where the individuals buttons don’t work. Is there a fix for that? Or should I just maybe buy it brand new at some point down the road? lol

I had the same problem. Re-read this thread and it turns out everything has to be re-connected first, then the buttons will work! Has to do with a ground or something. Good stuff.

I chose to immerse the switch and contacts in an ultrasonic cleaner, then use a "pink pearl" pencil eraser to brighten up the surfaces, then repeat the ultrasonic bath to remove erasures. This did a really good job with minimal abrasion. Afterwards, I used Deoxit Gold on the contacts.

A little extreme but heck, if you have the resources then by all means!
