I think that I would try driving without the hood, before I take off on a long trip. If it does prove to be a problem, then maybe a little "Yankee ingenuity" can provide a temporary solution.

Maybe a plastic sheet with some cardboard in strategic locations for support, anchored with some duct tape might be the answer? Food for thought.

Isn't duct tape a bit hard to come by these days for you fellas?

I definitely wouldn't use duct tape. If you are going to put tape on paint, get some racing tape.

also take a picture after you drive a little, if the plastic doesn't rip off, then it might melt from the heat inside the engine bay. and if the plastic sags and touches the header? that would be a mess!

Yeah, I dont think it would be a great idea to put anything over the engine that has a chance of melting. I think I will talk to Duc and see if there is any way I can leave my hood up there until I can take the truck up and pick it up...

Why don't you fold it in half and put it in your trunk?

I did the calculations. It would have to be folded in thirds. If you heat the hood with a heat gun, your paint will be more forgiving.
