Default Electrical issue, car dying

Problem with a stock 2001 s2000.

Not my car:

My friend called on the way to my house, his AP1 had died. First the EPS light came on, then the cluster shut off, then the motor died. We met up with him, push started it, and got it to run for a while. It would not start back up on its own. So we sat around shooting the shit for about 5min and it did the same thing right in front of us. Well we decided to get him home, he made it all the way home without a problem. Then a couple of weeks later, I get a call while I am out of town telling me it's doing it again. This time it died on the freeway. He left it overnight, only to have it get towed by state police. He managed to start it again and drive it about 40mi to his friend's shop. It is not the battery. Alternator was working (according to friend's friend's shop), but they tried replacing it anyway. It doesn't sputter or anything, it just progressively shuts itself down. It has been much colder around here lately 15-30F.

Notes:
EPS light
Cluster shuts off
Car shuts off
won't restart unless push started or jumped
happens in the cold more than in the warm

PM billman.

We had something similar happen on a sedan of ours after a mouse got into the engine bay to stay warm one night and ate through a wire.

And so it starts...a downward spiral because of a stupid mechanic.

Go back and get the stock alternator, and ditch the rebuilt junk. Trust me.

Jump the car, idle it, and measure the voltage at the battery. Post it up.

Any updates on this?

My car is having the same issues. The battery and alternator were replaced last year by the previous owner. I replaced the alternator with a used one tonight, thinking it was the culprit, but the car died on me again. The battery had a full charge. I charged it with a trickle charger, then got it checked at AutoZone and they said the battery is good and is fully charged. and the same issue still happens. This happened out of nowhere.

I believe the battery is putting out ~11 volts, and when I give it some gas, it drops to ~8-9 volts (I think). I don't remember exactly.

Any ideas?

Update:

I think something is shorting out in my electrical system, which is preventing the alternator from running.. which I think is because the two wires that attaches to the air control solenoid thing in front of the alternator are completely cut..

Anyone know of a cheap fix for this? The wires are cut right where they connect to the harness/socket so I can't just reconnect them. I don't think Honda sells this by itself..
