This exhaust splutter sound happened a few days before. The car choked at 4000. I replaced plugs and coils a week ago. The spark plugs were covered in black soot. A month ago i had this exact same problem and was took it into honda. They got a code for a faulty knock sensor. I replaced it and the problem went away. A month later it returned. Thats pretty much all the things i can think of.

Getting the same CEL error? Check the plugs, again. Status of the O2 sensors?

Sounds like a blocked Cat. Limited exhaust flow.

Have you considered the fuel system? I would start with replacing the fuel filter in case it is preventing adequate flow at higher demands.

Guess this wouldn't hurt. But, seems like engine is running too rich.
