Fourth Gear Syncro Gone: Any Recommendations?
Well... today while reving the engine at static RPM's in neutral while checking some partial throttle fuel levels I hear a clunk, clunk... Turn the car off, can't figure out what made the noise. Decide to start the car up, no issues are apparent. Drive away, and start accelerating. Hmm, can't get it into fourth gear. Let things cool down, try again. Can't get into fourth gear.
Yesterday, I had a friend drive the car while I tuned accel pumps on the AEM, and he made a couple of mis-shifts from fifth to fourth instead of fifth to sixth (were quite rough and made me cringe). It was so bad that after that I had him stop and gave up on him driving. I'm *guessing* that perhaps the mis-shifts fractured the fourth gear syncro, and today while reving in neutral it actually broke off. Although, I'm quite surprised that even so that it could have fractured with a single gear mis-shift.
Definately a buzz killer....
Any recommendations on repair? I'm debating bringing it to a Honda dealer or a transmission shop. The transmission shop will have more experience with transmissions in general, but not with the S2000. The Honda dealer will have more knowledge/resources of the S2000, but not really any more experience concerning the transmission on the S2000.
Also, any ideas on where to get parts a little cheaper than Honda? Or used transmissions? I may check around some junkyards to see if I can locate a tranny first.
Thanks, Gary

Not to good Gary. Sorry to hear about it. I'd try finding another trans if you need a quick repair and can afford it. You might want to look for a wrecked 04. If not, hopefully some of the So cal guys can give you a good reccomendation on a good trans rebuilder.
I remember CMIS2K posting the blower did nt have to be removed to yank the trans. I'd watch it real close, the engine really has to drop for the trans to come out. You don't want to rest the engine's weight on the blower over the center cross beam.
You don't have to yank the Toda header to pull the trans though.

Yah, I was wondering about the S/C. That was originally why I had the clutch done before installing an S/C.
Although, I've gotten pretty good at removing/installing the S/C now. From open the hood to closing the hood it only takes me 3 hours with no power tools and no lift.
I'll probably see about getting someone to swap transmissions... It's too much a PITA without a lift. Really, miss not having access to a lift...
I would have thought there was room to lower it with the Toda. Particularly, as the Helms only shows removing the heat shield from the stock exhaust when dropping the subframe.

I'm always blown away with how fast information/help can come. Already have a used '03 transmission lined up. Just need to yank mine and install it and be on the way.
I think I may take this broken one and research getting things beefed up/hardened and a longer 6th gear.
