Default Front grill guard and engine temperature

Has anyone with a front grill guard noticed any changes in engine cooling after installing it? I am considering putting one on my S, but wonder if it will decrease airflow through the radiator significantly.

I recall some tests awhile ago that suggested grills do marginally decrease air flow. But it's probably a wash when considering that they prevent damage by bugs and road debris to the radiator. A crushed radiator certainly isn't working at 100% efficiency.

I use a grill in very hot weather with no problems, but I don't run a front plate.

Thanks Mikey. I don't run a front plate either.

I bought my s2000 grill from grille-tech.com and even talk to the guy cause the owner has an s2000 also, he says that his grill allow for 68% air flow as compared to 100% without the putting a grill there, i haven't notice a bar of heat increase but some people have with hot temp and driving on an incline, do a search and see.

What about compensating for the decreased air flow by opening the side vents or increasing radiator heat exchange efficiency using Red Line's Water Wetter? I have considered a vented hood; but those are expensive, even without considering painting costs.

I have a grille and no plate. I also have been using Redline WW for about 2K miles and with previous results from my other cars as a guide, I doubt I will EVER see four bars on the S2K. The stuff works. The radiator is just too damn vulnerable for something NOT to be there.

I agree. My grill guard should be here next week.

That's a false economy. When the bugs and stones bend your radiator fins, you'll efficiency will drop permanently.

I find it far preferable to run a grill. It's easier and cheaper to remove or replace than the radiator.
