I would think gas stealing is the least of your concern if someone was to have access to the gas line. Simple sugar down there and your $10K engine is done. That is why I used a lock gas cap before.

Actually, it was shown on Mythbusters that sugar, syrup, water and a few other things don't damage an engine. What they do is to contaiminate the system so that other bad things happen - like corrosion, rust, bad combustion. Although I wouldn't like the clean up afterwards, just knowing that someone may have put a foreign substance into the gas tank would be the biggest annoyance and worry. Imagine if someone put down a 1/2 gallon of sulfuric acid or HCL or a gallon of pure benzene.
Joke all you like about locks. It's your car and your property, just as it is mine.

Better safe than sorry imo.

yep, bumping an old thread...
anyways, like a few other people have said above, they've been having problems with their gas caps and CELs. this has hit me the last month with the gas cap being tight but loosening up after a few days. off the top of my head i think it's a P1456 but i read that code a few weeks ago.
looked like the culprit may be more the filler neck rather than the actual cap. guess i'll have to take a look. the last week was rainy so i haven't driven the S in a little while. we'll see. thanks for the info guys (2006 ftw).
