Default gear shifter

I noticed my gear shifter is looser than when it was 10,000 miles ago. Someone told me that as the car ages it will get looser. Its kinda like when you buy new sunglasses. The arms are tight when folding but as the glasses get older the arms get looser.

Is that how it is with the gear shifter. Is there any way to tighten it back up. My
car shifts fine and doesn't pop out of gear. I only have 30,400 miles on it. I just changed the tranny, diff and clutch fluid.

I think that things in the tranny have just worn in over the last 30K miles, which should be normal. I doubt you can get it tightened up without putting in new guts to the tranny.

I dont get why its soo loose. Does anybody else have a loose gear shifter? I guess I'm not used to it being broken in like this. It feels akward. I pray that its broken in like XViper says. It moves so quick now. Its like when the cursor on your computer moves a mile from the lightest touch of the mouse. It engages into each gear great though. no slippage or nothing. I hope my tranny isn't eft-up.

OK, it's really hard to convey "loose" over the internet. If you have some doubt, I would strongly suggest you manhandle the shifter on another S2000 of a similar mileage and vintage to see for yourself. You might just have something wrong. The way you use the term "loose" gives me visions of the shift stick about to come out of it's moorings.

maybe the shifter bushing on the bottom of your lever is worn or it could be just your imagination ..

You were right xviper. i just took my S for a nice freeway run. Its driving better and faster than ever. I think its still workin in too. Its shifting really well. it must be the fact that i changed the diff, tranny and clutch fluid yesterday. I also removed the grilletech grill that was obstructing the air flow.

gosh, the drive I just went on revitalized my love for the S.
