Default grinding into 6th

Every once in a while when I shift into 6th it will grind really bad. It did it again today and it is getting worse. After this happened it was really hard to put it into 5th and 6th. The same thing happened to my friend in his type -r with 1st and 2nd gear, then a week later 2nd gear went out. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone and if 6th is getting ready to go. should i just keep driving and see what happens or take into honda now? thanks for ur help guys

your clutch could be going, check for that

synchro for 5-6 may be chewed up, slam it into gear a few times and may de-burr and operate better

if under warranty and car has no warranty unfriendly mods, take it directly to dealer. If you let them document the problem, even if they say lets wait and see, it will help get fixed when it blows later

Question: Do you skip gears when shifting? 1-2-3->6
If so, you may have damaged the 5-6 synchro, not the first time this has happened. Your next experience might be a complete lock out of 5th and 6th.

My gears are grinding going into 6th, and have been doing so consistently. I've never skipped gears, but have grinded 5th a few times, probably 3-4 times. I've read on the other thread about that, about it chipping off the teeth of the syncro or something. However for now, I can access 5th easily, but going into 6th from 5th is a grinder.

Will I have to take apart the transmission for this? I just had it taked apart to replace some galled bearings and to replace a secondary driveshaft a few months ago.

It is too late now but whenever the transmission is opened, it is wise to inspect all parts for proper clearances when it comes to wear.
