Default Have a 01' ECU for MY04 but...

The ECU came from a car that was totaled some years ago, so its not stolen (I saw the car, myself) So can I:

Have it programmed without the serial number?
If not, can I use the serial number from one of my buddies?
Once programmed, can I swap from 01 and 04 ECU's at the dyno without reprogramming the 04?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

You may need the VIN of the car the 01 PCM came from, it depends what tester the Dealer is using. Unless you leave 1 key programmed to the 04 PCM, you will not be able to swap PCM's and start the car with the key programmed to the 01.

There are 3 different Diagnostic tools that can program a key. It will depend which one they are using if they need the VIN from the original car. Even so, they may require the VIN from the 01 to verify it's not a stolen car.

make sure you have money set aside if you plan on revving over 8300rpm. there are unproven dangers and risks associated with this mod.

I will most certainly use an aftermarket rev limiter (such as MSD, etc) to set red line at 8600 rpm (will be shifting at no more than 8.4-8.5K)
