Default Head removal tips?

Because of this, I am pulling the head. I have already drained the fluids and removed the supercharger and aftercooler. Btw, the aftercooler and connected hoses hold quite a bit of coolant.

Any tips? Should I try to remove the head with the intake still connected or should I follow the manual? TIA.

I'd leave the aftercooler hooked up, and pushed out of the way.

You can leave the intake manifold and exhaust manifold in place. Just unbolt from the head and push them off the studs. You will need to unbolt the support brackets for both.

I'd leave the exhaust manifold in the car, and leave the intake on the head. It's easier for me to unbolt the intake manifold on a bench then on the car.

You will have oil and coolant mix, so change the oil after the head is off.

If you have head studs, remove them. you won't be able to pull the head off the block over the studs, with the engine in the car. The cowl blocks the way.

There is a ground bolt on the back of the cylinder head. It's a flaming PITA to remove.

Yet, that ground bolt was a PITA.

Same boat as you skip. Racing a Turbo Civic the other night and then it just did not feel right at about 100 mph plus and was making a noise. Went home and pulled the plugs and Bingo. The Porcelin Insulater was gone from the #3 cylinder plug. Denso Iridiums. Changed the plugs it seems fine at idle but when I get on it it makes a noise. Not sure what it is it seems like an extremely loud valve noise. Seems worse underload, then when I just rev it in Idle.

Compression and leak down test this week and maybe pull the head next weekend......Arrrgggghhhhh!

Sorry to hear this. You've always answered my questions, so if I can return the favor, don't hesitate to ask.
