An engine break test will tell you if the compression is shooting oil into your cylinders.

First break from 80km / hr with the clutch engaged to a stop and then start as a baseline, and compare it to letting your car engine break to a stop as you shift down.

Pretty sure this is a test of piston ring health.

Correct me if I'm wrong

Cheers.

yes i love that stuff also. fixed my oil consumption problems with 2 ap1 s.

Hi everyone,

for some reason reply notifications stopped, but I've just caught up. Thanks for all your advice.

The car has had it's compression and leak down test done by a workshop today. The tests were done 'stone cold', which according to Rob Robinette's guide means that compression will read lower and leak down will be higher than if it was done warm. That in mind, here are the results:

Compression: 188 190 186 189

Leak down: 15% 23% 21% 22%

Their feedback was "there are no signs of any wear"., and "highly unlikely that it's any cylinder wear".I'm not so bothered by the numbers, but I'm looking for consistency across the cylinders. That in mind, I'm very happy with these results.

I've just ordered myself a borescope off amazon (thanks Car analogy for the recommendation), I'll take a look to see if there's any scoring but to be honest after those results I'm not expecting to see anything. Regarding using Pennzoil, unfortunately we don't have Pennzoil here is Aus, so that option is out! The Penrite I'm using is a great product, and used by lots in the local S2000 community.

UPDATE: I've just read the thread that valtsu linked.....surely not. I mean, I have a J's racing oil cap but surely it can't be as easy as the oil filler cap not sealing correctly??? I'm going to try putting my OEM cap back on as soon as I get the car back!!

Hi Xtain,

I have finally found someone with the same problem with an AP1 (60k miles), this mystery smoke cloud coming out my healthy engine, not even in the hard corners situations.

Do you have any update ?

Very similar story here on my original f20 with similar mileage and build date. Car would consume round 1L per 1000kmish and sometimes sitting at a red light you would see it. Also intake manifold and area would be oily. I chocked it up to blowby. Engine performed well until I spun a bearing
