^^ You have to look at the keepers not the retainers. I don't believe the cracks in the retainers will be visible from above.

Even if the keepers look fine now you'll want to check them again in a few thousand miles. People have reported blown engines due to a broken retainer 10-20k miles after an overrev.

Well if you were really going 70 and shifted into 2nd in your AP1 then it only overrevved to 9500rpm at max. Given that the car should have been slowing down during the misshift (time in neutral and the engine braking once in 2nd gear) you may not have even been at 70 any more, so you likely didn't even hit 9500rpm (70mph in 2nd gear in an AP1). Even if you did hit 9500 that's not high enough to do any damage. Now if you were going 73-74mph and the engine did manage to rev all the way out in 2nd gear at that speed you would have hit 10,000rpm which is probably not good.....but I kind of think you're in the clear. It really depends on how fast you were actually going.

if you could tell us how many rpms registered at the highest point of the mis-shift it could possibly put your mind to ease. As stated above 9500 could be safe, 10k is the point where you should be concerned.

How do you go from 4th to 2nd on a misshift? I can understand 4th to 3rd or 3rd to 2nd, but 4th to 2nd.............

get a compression and leakdown test compair the numbers to stock numbers and then pay attention to your car day by day...unless you ballin and could have your head pulled and examined my a cylinder head shop...again best of luck to you and dont freak out, iy happens more often to S drivers...and their cousins....if youre scared and have the money, upgrade keepers, retainers, seats, springs, and valves, or better yet dont let anyone but S owners drive your car

my engine checked out fine immediately after my over-rev.

however, a year later, i had low compression and bent valves. to this day, i haven't been able to explain why this happened so much later.

if i were you, i would just change the retainers. and constantly check your compression.

3rd is a perfectly fine gear for speeds up to 90mph. Why even worry???
