Default Help please. Steering problem

Hi I have a 2003 Honda s2000.
I'm having issues with the steering been heavy then light when I turn
Illustration
--- = light
/// = heavy
--///----///---///---///---///-
That's the pattern of heavy and light when I turn the wheel. I thought it might be torque sensor but I jacked the car up at the front so no weight was on the wheels and if the engine is switched off its exactly the same? So I'm now thinking it's not the torque sensor?

Has anyone any idea?
Would they recommend I get a new rack?
I tested ball joints and all seem ok

Any feedback would be appreciated
Thanks

Have you reset the power steering? Have to short a couple of contacts in the OBD2 port and follow a few steps. Someone will link to the instructions in the library here.

I made the mistake of turning the steering wheel while the front wheels were off the ground and had to reset the power steering.

May not solve your problem, but it's a simple procedure.

No I must admit I not try to reset it however I had a little fiddle with it today, I moved the cap cover from where the steering column enters the rack and poked my finger in there! There seems to be a bit of hard grease there and some fell out as a lump. I put the car back on the floor and for about 2 mins driving (30mph) it seemed to be alot better( not as hard to turn on the parts where it was really heavy) so I think it's something along that bearing that the shafts goes into the steering rack. So next weekend I'm going to remove my steering rack and see if I can service it. If I can't or I break it then I'll need a new one anyway so might as well try it. I'll keep you posted and let you know the outcome as from what I been reading there is a few people with this sort of issue.
