I used an aftermarket ballast on my s2000 for a little while when I was waiting for an OEM one to ship in. It worked well enough but the mounting of it left something to be desired and it wasnt weather tight like the OEM system is.

I dont get why there are no aftermarket replacements in OEM ballast shape and size though

100 is what they seem to go for a decent used ballast, kinda pricey, but the last one lasted 12 years so that isnt that bad I guess.

Yeah, did the same a month ago. That's why I said it would be a good idea. Or better yet some to create a "proper cover" for the whole that is left when removing oem ballasts.

If oem is ultimately the best then why is there after market products?
Because the OEM S2000 headlight system in your car is one of THE best HID systems ever designed
the aftermarket systems you can buy on Ebay are for cars like older civics, integras and preludes with incandescent bulbs for low beams
you can upgrade an incandescent system to HID with a cheap Ebay kit and even then you really need a projector to focus the beam and be street legal
if you stick a cheap Ebay kit in the S2000 it really is a downgrade from OEM
It is not the "HID system" on the s2000 that is great it is the projectors. The bulbs and ballasts really dont have much to do with it.

Ok i have a question. Dont S already have a stock ballast which is 35w and running on 4300k. So i was wondering if i change the light bulb to a 8000k without changing the ballast. Would my wires will get toast or something like that because 8000k have a different output power?

No. 8000k is the color output of the bulb. Nothing to do with the power output.
