HID turning off by itself
I am having issues with my driver side HID. I went out for a drive tonight and I noticed that my driver's side HID would keep turning off by itself. If I turn the lights off and on again, the HID will turn on again. Within 5 minutes of doing this, it will turn off again. I felt that it was dangerous to drive at night and did not want to cause further damage so I headed on home after about 20 or so minutes of driving. When I got home I noticed that the HID that was having issues is now more purple than my passenger side. I have searched and one of the results mentioned the bulbs going bad however, the poster of the thread said his bulbs were reaching their life expectancy. I have a brand new OEM driver's side headlight/bulb from Honda due to an accident and was replaced less than a year ago (10 months to be exact). I rarely drive at night and do not turn on my HID's during the day so I would hazard to guess I have less than 300 hours on these HID's at the most. It is also important to note that I rarely flash my high beams during the day except to warn oncoming traffic that there is a speed trap.
Anyone have any ideas what the issue could be? I have checked the fuses and they're all fine.

well it doesnt really matter how old the bulb. try swapping the bulb from driver to passenger. or better yet just get some bulb from this website. its cheap but has oem quality. http://www.theretrofitsource.com/index.php
Seen this before, it was moisture bridging the printed circuit in the HID ballast.
Take the cover off the ballast, and dry it with compressed air.
Then find the braided wire cover going into the ballast. Remove the clamp, pull back the braided cover, you will see a black wire and a red wire. Seal this area where the wires enter the ballast with silicone (this is where water finds its way in)

So I finally found the time to remove the bumper and check the headlights. It turns out when I got my headlight replaced, the mechanics who did it, did not replace the bulb. The inside of the ballast was completely dry and it appears the bulb burned out (I read somewhere that as the bulb wears out they lose that "yellow" coloring inside them). The bulb that was causing the problems had no trace of "yellow" inside it at all. I swapped the bulbs and sure enough the good bulb worked on the driver's side while the bulb in question, did not. This was a huge relief because it meant that my ballast was fine and I know those are very costly to replace. I purchased 2 new bulbs from Partsource and replaced both bulbs and now my lights work perfectly!
Again, thanks for the tips and advice!
