Default High RPM smell.

Hey guys im new to s2000s. I just bought a 2002 with 73k miles. When ever I take it to higher rpm( about 5K+) i get smell from the engine. I can't tell what it is. Its not rubber, braks or clutch. Is this normal or should i get it checked out? It's usually pretty warmed up when i rev it high, oil at 3 bars and city driving for about 15 mins. Also i found out today that the last oil change (pervious owner) was with 5W-40 oil, is this ok?

Check out this thread. Same thing. My H22 prelude did it as well as my '05 S. Neither used oil. It's the nature of the beast I think.

Since you just purchased this car I would automatically change the plugs, dif fluid, trans fluid, radiator fluid, and engine oil.

I would also inspect the clutch fluid, and brake fluid to make sure they are clear and not pure black. A lot of owners that have no clue never change their fluids except oil.

Some may say your crazy but I have seen stupid things from all my used vehicles that I have purchased from people.

Also the smell may be your drive belt?

Check and see if you have a test pipe instead of a cat.
