Default Horn does not work and SRS light on

ANyone had this problem. I did a search on the SRS light and one of the posts said if your horn does not work (mine does not) that the cable reel is misaligned.

I drooped the column with the four bolts, installed something under the dash, and put the four bolts back in. I am unaware with what the cable reel is and any procedure to align when you put the steering column back up.

Can anybody help? Pics or scans of a manual would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I am not totally sure that its related because I never removed the steering wheel itself, just lowered the colum assembly and when I test the one power lead going to the horn while pressing the horn button, the needle jumps from the current, just no sound so I first thought that just the horn itself is busted but I want to check everything out.

The cable reel is under the airbag. When you removed the steering column, if you allowed the steering wheel to over rotate (You left it unlocked during) you broke the reel and will need to replace it. You will need to source one from an 00-05 car.

Are you sure it would be broken? What is the cable reel and how would I see if it is broken rather than as it was posted in the other thread "misaligned?"

I don't think the steering wheel rotated that much when dropped. Not saying you are wrong, but this other thread aluded to an alignment procedure.

Your comment about the SRS light and the horn not working tells me it is the cable reel.

Like I said before, you would have had to remove the airbag to see the reel and to have miss aligned it. however alignment has nothing to do with the electical connections. They are either connected or they are not. Simple as that.

So my question to you it, what did you disconnect? You would have had to left two differant harness connections disconnected to have this problem. But they both pass through the cable reel. It is fragile and breaks easliy.

Has cruise control also been affected? This is another one of the functions passing through the cable reel. If so, I'd suspect the reel is borked or one of the two connector harness came lose connecting functions on the wheel (SRS, Horn, Cruise) to the reel itself.

Well since I see it is only a $160 part at a discount I am not too disturbed if I have to replace it. Sucks though.

Cruise works fine, horn gets juice right at the front bumper when you push the button, but does not beep. I see that another post says it is gounded at the cable wheel though so sounds like that is my problem. I will check my connections when I have time to crawl under the dash to see if something is loose though.
