You may not have a set of used pads, therefore, you would not have a choice but to prepare the new rotors with new pads.

I have Cobalt GT-Sports and bedded them with the instructions included in the box. I only get squeaking with very light braking. I used anti-seize as the shim lube.
After a hard track day at Thunderhill, I'm glad to say the pads held up great. No fading or crumbling.
