Default How do I tell the geometry is getting set by a competent mechanic?

My car is due in for a geometry tomorrow and I asked before booking it in, would they be able to set , camber, castor, toe setting, alignment, etc. and even though the girl behind the counter assured me that it’s not a problem, I’m not sure.. She asked, who makes the S2000, it makes me wonder if they have done this on an S2000 and I am worried that they might do a typical alignment as if it’s a run of the mill ford.

As I know very little about suspension setup, Is there anything I should be keeping an eye out for while they are doing it, or should the computer printout of the laser setting, matching the Honda recommended settings on their computer, be enough?

I’ll bring a print out of this just in case:

Aligning this car is easy. All adjusters are eccentric and easy to dial in fast.

Most important, you will want to make sure your caster adjusters are not frozen (moderately likely), or you will be wasting your money getting it done twice.

cheers for the heads up!

the caster adjusters, thats at the adjusting bolt on the inner side of lower front wish bone?

Do I get him to check those are free first before starting? Is there a easy way to get them free?

Any other bolts prone to be frozen?

In for this information too. Billman posted this in a thread I posted too. Pretty good information for all of us to have for future alignments.

It's in the back of the front lower a-arm, uses a 24mm socket to adjust it, once you loosen the 17mm that holds it.

In relation to the car:

CASTER adjuster run up and down, 24mm.

Camber adjust runs front to back, 17mm.

Ok so im just back from alignment and as Billman suspected the front castor adjuster was seized solid. also, one of the rear adjusters on the lower wishbone was not too good either..

they had a new alignment computer installed less than a yeaar ago, but it seemed to have the orignal factory settings , thats in the workshop manual, in the computer. I asked him to set the suspension to the Honda UK Recommended Settings updated January 2002.

Here is a printout of the final settings, have a look and let me know if it looks acceptable. I have a track day next Sunday and would like the car to be at its best..

Generally speaking you're fine....except the rear camber. Not enough on the right. In fact, they made it worse than when you brought it in!

Yeah the back lower camber bolt was seized and the front castor adjustment was seized. He thinks its a hammer out and destroy the bushing to get it free'd up then go through the alignment again.
