"Knowledge Document" from Honda engineers in Cali re: deceleration noise
Got this faxed to the dealer from Honda today. They would not do TSB 54 or fix "Rattle" from low RPMS on MY2001 car. Not enough 'complaints' yet.

Application Matrix
Model: S2000
Start Year: 2000
End Year: 2001
Service Details:
The S2000 6-speed transmission has the following characteristic noise(s):
-A growling noise (roll over noise) when accelerating at low engine speed (below 2,000 RPM) or when shifting at low RPM (short shifting).
-A rattling noise that is audible when accelerating through 5,000 RPM
-A heat shield type noise when decelerating from 4,000 to 3,000 RPM usually most noticeable after about 4,000 miles. For the heat shield type noise, have the dealer install a countermeasured clutch disk P/N 22200-PCX-025
***** NEW INFO *****
Countermeasure VIN for new disk is: JIIMAP114*YT007700
ALL 2001 MODEL YEARS HAVE COUNTERMEASURED DISKS
After countermeasure complaints of decel buzz must be told that they already have the new disk.
**********INTERNET CUSTOMERS**********
If a customer states that he wants the new clutch, explain that the noise may be worse with the new disk that the old disk. If the customer is not hearing the deceleration noise he may want to keep the older more quiet disk in the car.
_____
Curious to hear other MY2001 owners situations with dealers on these. StooK currently has 2000 miles on it.
Thanks
