Default looking for power steering controller

Hello,

I am looking for a power steering controller that contols the EPS levels that the car has. Out of the factory, the EPS adjusts and gets harder to turn, the faster you go. I am looking to control this function, and was wondering if if anyone here knows of a company where they sell this module.

I hear there is a company in europe that has this modification.

thanks all

I havent looked closely at this, but would have thought that the EPS would get a speed signal and vary the amount of assistance with speed. More at low speed and less at high speed.

The speed signal the EPS uses comes from an output on the instrument panel. You could try taking the speed input from the gearbox which is at double the pulse rate. ( its an input to the ECU and instrument panel. The instrument cluster halves the pulse rate and sends it to the EPS, headlights and lots of other stuff). This would make the EPS see double the speed and therefore reduce the amount of assistance earlier.

interesting.

actually, what i was looking for was to have the power assist on at all times, minus when the car is at a complete stop. cause the power steering adjust uses a motor, i dont want to burn it out when the car is not moving. so....

car stopped - no power steering
anything other than 0mph - full power steering at all times

The power steering only provides assistance when you move the steering wheel. If you leave your hands off the wheel it provides only maintenance assistance.

The standard steering assistance reduces with road speed otherwise you would be zig zagging all over the road at high speed.

Its not as simple as on/off. It provides a variable amount of assistance. I've never seen any posts about burnt out power steering so your concerns about impending burn out may not be warranted.

chris_barry - do you have any experience with the EPS control on the s2k? can you tell me exactly how to try to trick the EPS to giving more or giving less "pulse" signal? I am looking for more than just a theory. Any assistance will be helpful.

I am also afraid that if i apply constant voltage to the EPS, the motor will be running at full power, regardless of speed. Basically the power steering will be on full whenever the car is on. I think that in time, the motor will burn out.

I'm not sure, but I don't think the EPS system uses a motor. I think it uses electromagnetic coils.

the EPS does use a motor. i just found this nifty article about the HONDA EPS systems. check it out, its pretty neat.

djkjione,

Put a yellow box speedometer signal corrector on the speed input to the power steering controller. You can then apply a positive of negative multiplier to the speed signal.

I still dont understand your concerns. If you have the standard EPS controller setup there is no known pattern of EPS burn outs. Are you doing something different or bizzare.

Find something else to worry about.
