My maintenance req'd light flashed about three times at me and then disappeared. I was on the freeway in 5th gear doing about 6000 rpm at 100 mph. Is this some kind of timed maintenance schedule that has come up? I have 5900 miles on the odo.

It is driven by mileage. Look in the Library for the procedure to reset it for another 6K miles.
