yes it is flashing. but the car runs fine. can i just swap ECU's? i thought the keys had to be reprogrammed and a bunch of other junk. Also would an AP1 ECU work?

Just read every post in here, and theres some interesting random results. Im gonna say #1 cause for misfires is bad valve guides. That allows the valve to move about during its motion and beats up the valve seat everytime the valve shuts.
I have also seen a few bad injectors and a few bad coils. but most common is roasted guides.
Soon as i see misfire codes this is my course of action.
#1 do leakdown test. If all are OK then clear the codes and idle hot till light comes on. read those new codes and see what they are. Then i swap coil from supposed bad cyl to another cyl first to see if miss follows, if not next i swap injectors from bad cyl to good one. by this point i would have an answer.
Ive never seen a TPS or IAC cause misfires, its just not likely. It may have happened to someone, but its 1 in a million.
Hope this helps some people. I have done 5 heads now that the valve guides were wasted on. And its always tied to people who putt there s2k around. The guys who rail the cars, never have any issues.
SO....sound off with 8 and 9k blasts every day to keep your F20/22 happy.

I too have a misfiring problem. It's a 2001 that I got on 4/29/09 with 109,802 miles on the odometer and I got a valve adjustment at 110,389 miles. The mechanic didn't mention any problems with the valve train. I've always noticed strange vibrations near idle usually when I turn the car on and when I come to a stop and put the clutch in but I never really paid much attention to it. On 4/20/10 I got a misfire in cyl#1 and changed all 4 spark plugs the day after. Then the day after that the CEL came on again so I took it back to the shop. He cleared the CEL and told me to come back if it comes up again. All is well and I am happy that it didn't come on again. Then on this past Monday it came back on, almost a month later...I took it to the shop today and this time cyl # 1 AND 3 are misfiring...
Now my questions are:
1) If the cause was any of the 1st 4 (bad gas, TPS, Knock sensor, and alternator) shouldn't all the cylinders misfire??
2) How much would it cost to replace a bent valve or two?
I will be going back to the shop in the morning and will ask him to swap the coils to see if that is the problem. That would be my best case scenario IMO. But with my luck, or the lack of it, it won't be...
