As follow-up to my misfiring case, it looks like new OEM injectors have solved the problem. It's been about 3 weeks since the new injectors and I've had no CEL or stuttering at idle. Before the new injectors I was getting multiple misfire codes on a daily basis, pretty much across all cylinders. I'm so glad I went for a second opinion after the dealer told me I needed a $5000 valve job. Of course I went through about $1200 of work before settling on the injectors, but at least that's way better than 5 grand. I'm enjoying the car much more now. It's been almost 3 years since I first had this problem.

I bought my car used with 143K... now it has 154K on the clock. I, too, had a misfire in 1-2-3-4 and random that popped up a couple weeks after ownership. I just kept driving it trying different gas, new injectors, etc... every time resetting the CEL. Within 1 day, it would be back.

Saturday, I had a valve adjustment performed. Probably the 1st one in a very long time, every single valve was off by quite a bit. They also reset the ECU when it was done. After 4.5 days of driving, the CEL has failed to re-appear.

I'll see if it can stay away for a few more days and report back... but when was the last time you had a valve adjustment done?

(I also had new motormounts and a new tranny mount put in, but those wouldn't have anything to do with the CEL)

Updating again... CE light has not returned. In my case... I'm now quite confident the valve job 'fixed' the misfiring.

Glad to hear your problem has been solved. How many miles have you gone since the adjustment?

Your statement could be miss leading to readers. Please note that it should read "valve adjustment" and not "valve job" as those mean two different things to most people.

Not too long ago my CEL popped up and came up with random misfires on all cylinders. I had recently changed my valves due to a misshift but never changed or checked my retainers or adjusted my valves. I tried everything on the list and nothing. finally a member from here stated that his CEL was because he had a cracked retainer, i checked my retainers and yezzir, a retainer was cracked. So I bought ap2 retainers w/ keepers and adjusted my valves and the problem when away. My engine was running like crap, felt like it was gonna give up in any moment.

Might want to put that up on the list..

Hello everyone, I am having a couple of problems with my 2002 AP1. Wondering if anyone can help? It has been misfireing lately and it doesn't let the rpms go any further than 3000. I put the computer on it and it is giving me a code P1366 (Manfacurer Control Ignition system or Misfire) and recently when i try to turn the car on in the morning it shuts off instantly. I have to crank it a couple of times before it runs normal. If anyone has any Info please post it. Thanks
