how many miles on the engine? The leadkdown test will tell all. either it will leak through the rings and pop the dipstick out, or it'll leak through the intake or exhaust manifolds which would indicate the head failure.

An engine can run pretty well with a bent valve. You may get some mis-fires and stuttering at idle or around town. it sounds like you don't drive the car hard, 7K is barely into vtec on an AP1.
