how come every turbo post is a litany of excuses and what if's.........but not once has any S/C apologized for anything.

shut up.....its a rhetorical question, i know the answer personally.

Hey Fastlane, I'm not sure if you saw this discussion, but do you have the NOVI 1000? or 2000?

Some S2000 owners who got the Comptech SC received either the 1000 or 2000, and the 2000 is 1.5 times bigger. Really weird.

yo team turbo lag 2000,

in a standing start acceleration contest, IF GOOD OR LUCKY, all manner of F20c powered cars will be launched at 6000rpm or greater and remain at or above this in rapid subsequent upshifts.
if you want to dip down to 3500rpm to show off your impressive low end grunt, feel free to do so while u are eating fastlane's dust.

okay, I definitely do not want him to flag...otherwise I just might accidently pop the clutch at too high an RPM, fishtail towards the center and run him over.

No doubt, although you still have to launch an SC'd car pretty high in the rpm range (with stock gears). Based on Team Hybrid's dyno sheet, he'd probably want to launch between 3500-4000 rpm, which is right near where full boost occurs. I don't think Fastlane would be too much different thanks to the gears.

Just for reference on the comparison (since I have both the dyno sheets on my dyno, and since confidentiality is clearly not an issue here :-), Team Hybrid's car is ahead on torque (and therefore power) until nearly 8000 rpm. As his curve nears 8000 rpm, the power just flattens out, most likely we think due to whatever tune is in his F-Con (which I could not adjust). It just holds steady around 295 from 7900-9000 rpm instead of continuing to rise.

Fastlane's car is beautifully tuned (I did not tune it, he brought it to me for a confirmation run, but whoever did tune did a pretty nice job) and produces better low/mid range torque than a lot of Comptech cars I see. The VAFC clearly provides some benefit. Like all Comptech cars his power curve keeps going up right to the limiter. However, compared to the turbo there is a large torque deficit. Even at 6000 rpm, if memory serves, its still in the vicinity of 25-30 lbs-ft. As rpm climb, that torque deficit decreases until the the two cars are equal near 8000 rpm. Assuming both cars have the same gears and looking at the area under the curve, the turbo car would still win a roll on race starting at 6000 rpm. However, Fastlane is not running stock gears. In fact, he's got enough extra gear to make up for a lot of the torque deficit. It would be an interesting race in current trims. If Hybrid can unlock the potential in the upper rpm band, he should make about as much peak power as Fastlane did, and if he dumps his catalytic converter, he will probably make even more.

Oh, one other thing. One of the hardest things to simulate on a dyno is proper airflow through the intercooler. Some folks use a water mist to improve cooling to simulate the higher airflow levels you get at 80-90 mph. On a NA car, (or even a non-intercooled SC car) we see intake temps on the dyno that closely approximate on the road temps, perhaps 10-15F hotter for a given ambient temp, depending on the intake system. On Hybrid's car, because its virtually impossible to simulate flow across the intercooler on a stationary dyno, we were seeing intake temps on the road that were 30F cooler than on the dyno. Thus, on the road his car will be making more power than compared to a stationary dyno.

I'd love to see the race myself. Just don't get busted guys!
