NSX Engine in the S?
Yes, without tranny we're looking at well under 300 lbs. The Z06 is light because: 1) the LS1/6 engines are light for their size and 2) Composite body material.
The coupe style doesn't hurt either. The Vette vert is a good 3400+ lbs!

i'm not a big fan of vw's. but, i would think a narrow angle v6, like the vr6 engines, would be nice and compact, and would be a great fit in the s2k's engine bay. i'd like to see that. but only if honda puts its magic touch on it. think of the torque!
Yes, seems you're right. I can't find a curb weight on the vert over 3250 lbs. Must have been looking at a test weight in a magazine.
Interestingly, Chevy's website lists the fully dressed weight for the LS1 (in the Vette) at:
497 for the manual and 457 for the automatic
That is unusual to me, but it may have something to do with the rear tranny placement as you mentioned (don't know if the clutch assembly on the manual is up on the engine or back in the tranny). They also spec bare block weight at 107 lbs, which is a bit heavier than I would have thought.

actually the C5 was developed as a convertible first.

This was a hoax. The author even admitted it on the board a long time ago.
