OEM LEATHER CONSOLE 2002 and Up Swap
in a perfect world you would remove the entire dashboard,in order to get the front section of the ap2 console cover under and around the radio area. The glove box does not need to be removed just lift up the two lower sides to reveal two clips used in that area on the console cover.
Removing the dash was a major pain for me to undertake, so I did not install the front section of the console over, I only installed the piece up to the radio door. I did not remove the dashboard, it fits perfectly fine IMO. My ap2 console fits well on top of the cover and keeps it tight along with the radio door bezel.
If I was doing an ap1 to ap2 conversion I'd buy the console cover from JPM Coachworks as it just slides over the ap1 carpet, and it is real leather.

^^ yeah, you definitely don't need to pull the dash.
I just removed the radio door cover, and cut where the old cover attaches underneath the radio (you can't see it when the radio door trim is reinstalled). Undo the clips and it comes right out. Reinstall is the same, just slip it underneath the radio.
