Official Found a Rattle Thread
Problem: Rattle from passenger side under hood (near the battery) when going over bumps. Happens with top up or down. May appear/get worse after replacing battery
Cause: For me, panel underneath the battery tray was loose (held down by two nuts). Can reproduce manually by shaking battery from side to side. Problem happened after replacing battery, since they tightened down the tie-downs more and that helped transfer the rattle over to the metal panel.
Solution: Replace battery tray, put a $1 piece of foam between the battery and fuse box. (At first, I tightened the two nuts of the panel underneath battery tray, but it kept coming back)

I have a similar sound but it sounds like it's inside one of the bars of the soft top frame.
There are end caps on the bars which can be pulled out and the loose bit can be blown out the other side with an air gun or a deep breath.
If it can't however or the bar doesn't have a end caps then you can either inject a little selastic or silicon sealant into the bar.... go for a drive like a maniac... and that little loose bit of the rivit will slide from side to side eventually being stuck in the silicon and be captured there whilst the sealant sets inside the bar thus no more rattle/rolling/tinny sound from that loose rivit bit.
Worked a treat for me after having the roof replaced and the old rivits rolling around in the bars. Some blew out, some were too big to get past the new rivit in place. Silicon Sealant injected into the bar caught the loose bits and set.
Also the Rattle in the Roof catch above the front window can be solved with by removing the whole flippy catch thing, running a bead of sealant between the plastic liner and the catch which slides around and vibrates to make that annoying sound... and reinstall the catch. No more rattles.... EVER!

If I think of more solutions, I'll post them here

Bump for this? I have the exact same issue, It's only when revving the motor. I can be parked in neutral or driving and rev to 3-4k and it will make noise all the way up. Higher revs the louder/persistent it gets. Seems like something is hitting somewhere but man i'm convinced its coming from the radio/dash area. Perhaps underneath? Any ideas. It sounds awful. Happens with top up or down.

Check to see if your cat is rattling.. i had a rattling sound directly under shifter radio area, i thought it was coming from in the tranny. Hoisted up the car, banged the cat, it was rattling inside. Bam, rattle fixed
So far, I've found a rattle which sounded like it was from the frame or behind the dashboard, and would be worse when the car was cold, and after 5mins of driving would all but go away. It turned out to be the passenger visor. If I put it down or even half way down, the rattle stopped. I need to investigate further, as I think its held by just one screw.
Another "tapping" noise when switching from left to right turned out to be a small glass bottle of empty aftershave under the passenger seat rolling around.
