Default oh man...

ok ever since i bought the car used at the local honda dealer ship, i had a rough shift in gears, and when i would take it to higher rpms sometimes it should grind, or pop out of gear. how much do you guys think a synchro job will cost? MY01 has 50K on it, but don't you guys think that my synchro went out a little bit fast?

It only takes a few screwed up upshifts to damage a synchro, milage has nothing to do with it.

I'd figure 1K- 1.5K to rebuild a trans, depending on how many synchro's need to be replaced.

Before you sink all that money into rebuilding the tranny, maybe try a cheaper route first.

Move your seat up one or two more notches. This can do wonders to help with full clutch disengagement.
When doing high rpm shifts, slow down your shift just a fraction and concentrate on stick placement.
Change and flush your clutch fluid and ensure the pedal adjustment is good. Change your tranny fluid to something like GM Syncromesh, Friction Modified.

If you've really got damaged syncros, this won't cure it, but it may help the situation just enough that you might be able to hold off on that tranny job.

edit: The above should read "full clutch disengagement.

If you replace 1st through 6 the syncros will cost you around $1200 from honda. So Id say you can expect around $2000 +/- depending on what you have done. If you live in the Maryland area check out Andrew Tech Automotive he's the one that installed my gearset for me so I know he can do the work.

Depending on the cost of the syncro replacement, it might be a better idea to get a brand new trans from honda.
