Default Oil Cap popped off

As the title states my oil cap pooped off while I was driving tonight. Didn't notice till I stopped the car and saw oil everywhere. I drove about 140 miles tonight. The oil warning light did not come on at all. When I check the oil level it is one mark above low. If it helps car is an AP2 and it has been serviced with Royal Purple. Anything that I should look for as any weird noises or specific damage.

doubt it if you still had plenty of oil. top off the oil, new cap, see if the old one got lodged in between the tranny and firewall. clean up the mess and go

Checked oil level this morning and the dipstick level is reading at L. Going to put oil in it this morning let it idle for about 15 min and then proceed to do an oil change just to see if I have any metal shavings. I also managed to find my oil cap wedged between the engine and the firewall. Any other advice?

What you plan on doing sounds right. I doubt you will have issues. Just refresh the oil and monitor the levels. Also try to figure out why your oil cap came off and fix it so that it doesn't again.

There is a rubber ring on the bottom of the oil cap, the ring provides grip for the cap to stay in place. If the rubber ring is worn down smooth the cap can come loose from vibrations of the engine. I'd check the cap while you are at it, the rubber ring is replaceable, or you can buy a new cap. The rubber ring should extend higher than the base of the cap, if the ring is smooth with the base of the cap then it is worn out.

I had this happen to me in the summer. I was getting on the on ramp to the highway (I sometimes use it like a 1/4 mile track Lol...) So right from 2nd gear I slammed each shift at 8700rpm and as I came to about 160khm I backed off and got off at the next ramp. Well all of the sudden I saw smoke and smelled oil from my vents, I pulled into the plaza (had an autoparts store in it) 30 sec away and noticed yep no oil cap! Odd thing is I checked the oil and cap b4 I left my house. Went into the store got a cap and put some oil in and away I went. Sad part is the cap way jammed between the tranny and back of the motor making a knocking sound at idle, didn't find it till I got it home (making me think I blew my motor)... Lol
