I've always heard it being called "priming" the filter.

I fill the filter halfway and rub some oil on the gasket. I've done this with all my cars.

the only way to fill the filter is to fill till it sits lower than the center hole when in horizontal position ( this way it will not spill out when u screw it on)

Prime the filter by filling it half way.

I don't. I've run the engine warm before the change and in the 20 minuts I'm draining, I'm pretty confident that there's still oil on the engine internals. Starting an engine warm with a dry oil filter can't be worse than the intial cold day start up imo.

+ 1 for the top off. You spend the cash for good oil.... so why risk running it dry for a few seconds?
